It seems that 2 basic facts are being forgotten or cynically ignored
- Great Britain is NOT at war with Russia
- Great Britain has NO economic or military agreement with Ukraine.
And whilst the majority of the West – including patriotic Populists – support the struggle of the Ukrainian military against the Russian invasion force – rightly supplying military hardware to assist them in their defence of their homeland – when it comes to sanctions it seems that our liberal elite – are far more interested in “soundbites” for their Globalist Woke allies than in ensuring the sanction policy is both logical and successful.
Sanctions should be
- Thought out and comprehensive in inflicting maximum damage to the sanctioned countries political and economic system
But not
- At the expense of the hard-working families of Britain
And should
- Leave an option open to encourage / allow for a peaceful solution.
And looking at the sanctions imposed on Russia by Great Britain – it is apparent that none of these criteria are being met.
A. Sanctioning selected oligarchs and Russian officials – freezing assets
As we have seen – they were completely ill conceived and executed – as persons like Abramovich moved assets in Ervington to his colleague Tenenbaum, a senior colleague at Chelsea on the day of the invasion. Usmanov transferred funds on the day of the invasion to a trust fund, Mordashov the biggest shareholder of Tui travel company transferred his full holdings to his wife.
B. Sadiq Javid instructing the NHS not to use Russian gas
Again, who does that hurt the most? Mr. Putin or our “not fit for purpose” NHS service – who will need to reduce capital expenditure to pay for increasing gas supplies from other sources.
C. Restrictions on Russian gas and oil
Our energy prices go up…whilst countries like India have increased their oil purchases from Russia by a multiplier of 4 since the invasion – all at discounted prices? How did that help?
D. Banning the channel RT from our airwaves
is completely counterproductive (our news journalists there – now face tougher rules) and as believers in free speech – as we are not at war with Russia – we cannot support
E. Banning the export of luxury goods, art and fashion to Russia.
Who will this hurt – apart from the employees of our companies making these goods?
So, each key headline making sanction – has missed the mask…
Why? Probably because neither Boris or the Red, “Sir” Starmer has done their homework….
And as for allowing – a road to peace available – that also seems just like Mariupol – to be up in flames.
All we can say, with the political elite we have – God help us all
